June 1 – WKA Spring Nationals Recap

World Kart Association (WKA) Manufacturers Cup Spring Nationals

May 29-31 Dousman, WI – Briggs & Stratton Raceway Park

This weekend marked the third WKA, a top level national karting series, race weekend, and considering this is Innovative Performances home track, they came ready for whatever WKA and the weather had in store for them. Friday, practice was cut short due to rain. In order to keep dry, the Innovative Team opted out on Friday’s practice. Rain came on Saturday which didn’t seem to effect performance or results. Sunday brought us dry, and a less predictable track which was all the better for our drivers.

Rain was not a factor for TJ. With no practice Friday, the team got TJ situated right off the bat. With a pole in qualifying, TJ stayed dominant in the rain and in the dry. TJ Koyen was able to muster off a victory in the Yamaha Senior Pipe class. With 2nd and 3rd keeping right on his heals, TJ remained consistent and fast which lead  to an awesome victory after the 25 lap final!

Zachary Collins was a moving bullet working his way from 6th to 2nd! Unfortunately he fell back to 4th by the end of the 25 lapper, but awesome job nonetheless! Great job kid!

Coming out of retirement, Scott Kopp, took a podium in Pro Leopard Senior, and so did beaker squad driver Josh Hotz. It all started with a tight battle with between Josh Hotz and Kindra Hurlbert. Josh was able to break way from the battle, Scott snuck ahead of Hurlbert in the midst of the fight, and he was able to hold off Hurlbert for an awesome finish. After the very close battle between 3rd-5th, Josh ended up 3rd and Scott ended up in 4th!

Congrats team! Keep up the great work!
